My name is Johanna Sandström and I live in a small town south of Gothenburg, Sweden.
I live here with my son, a gorgeous Samoyed named Saffran, a spirited Finish Lapphund named Våffla and two big, fluffy cats.
I have been painting all my life, have taken various art courses in different mediums and have always been in love with colours and the creative process.
However, I got myself an education in Marketing Strategies, Communications and Chinese so I have been working with that for the past 12 years, focusing on my career and raising a family. During that time, my art got tucked away, mostly asleep in a few boxes until one day about 5 years ago when I picked up the brush again and everything sprung to life. I suddenly found myself dreaming of what could be instead of the work I was doing. So I enrolled in an art program, and a few online art courses. I went to Berlin for a Masterclass and I set up a proper studio in my home. Now, my big dream is to make it and live well doing what I love. I am so happy and grateful for every day that I get to spend with my paintbrush.
I paint to tell a story. The image is often born from an emotion, an energy or a symbol that I want to showcast. And the chosen subjects are not there by chance. My mission is to translate light codes, patterns, symbols, energies and intuition into colourful art that invoke emotions, thoughts and healing lights.
While I enjoy all sorts of figurative subjects both human and animals, I must finally admit to the fact that I love birds! I do. I love birds! They are so happy and express such wide variety of emotions, attitudes and charisma. Their colourful feathers are wonderfully fun to express through paint to evoke those big emotions like confidence, joy and freedom. There are also so many amazing species that are rarely depicted in paint so that is quite often my goal, to choose the birds that are often disgarded or overlooked. Most birds hold a symbolic meaning that can vary between cultures and some of the rare types boast expressions, patterns and colours that are not often seen on canvas.
Hope you feel inspired!
With Love,
Johanna
